Netflix’s live action anime adaptations are usually greeted with a mixed bag of opinions. In most cases, this doesn’t matter much as the streaming company greenlights more series or extra seasons. However, this was not the case with Cowboy Bebop, which was cancelled. After a couple of months of grieving, the actor in charge of Spike has finally revealed how he feels about this decision.
Through an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, John Cho, actor who plays Spike, has revealed that is disappointed by the cancellation of Cowboy Bebop, but he is happy for the experience he was able to live. This was what he commented:
“It was very shocking and I was bummed out. I was very touched by the answer [al programa]. I wish I could have contacted everyone and gotten hugs… I’m a little baffled as to how you can connect with people you don’t know doing your job, but I won’t question it. I will value and treasure it. I’m really deeply grateful that someone cares. It’s impressive to me.
I put a lot of my life into it. I got injured filming that show, so I took a year off due to surgery and went into rehab, came back and finished the show. I felt good about myself as a result. We also shot the show in New Zealand, so my family moved there. It was just a big event in my life and suddenly it’s over.”
Although this adaptation of Cowboy Bebop did have a couple of fans, they were not necessary enough for Netflix to decide to give the production a second chance. On related topics, two live-action Fullmetal Alchemist movies are on the way. Similarly, here you can see the new trailer for Dragon Ball Super: Super Dragon.
Editor’s note:
Although Netflix’s live-action adaptation featured a number of original ideas, the execution left much to be desired. The main criticism was the script, which not only featured lousy dialogue, but also took the story into areas that were simply unnecessary.
