Roberto Alvarado was the only reinforcement of Chivas de Guadalajara for the Liga MX Clausura 2022 tournament. The ‘Piojo’ arrived at the Sacred Flock in exchange for Uriel Antuna and the transfer of Alejandro Mayorga. However, the Mexican midfielder could have signed with Club America at some point in his career. In a recent chat with his partner Jesús Ricardo ‘Canelo’ Angulo, Alvarado revealed that he was able to play with the Eagles.
The 23-year-old player indicated that thanks to his good performance in Celaya he had the opportunity to train with the Manchester City youth academy. In the basic forces of the citizens he coincided with world soccer promises such as Jadon Sancho, Phil Foden and Brahim Díaz. However, Alvarado was unable to sign with the Manchester team due to his young age.
“In fact, at Manchester City they tell me: ‘you’re going to return to the U-20s with America’. As if they had good communication with them. When I returned there was still that gentleman’s agreement and some people from the Celaya board quoted me And since they had changed owners, they told me that I had to stay with them. And in the end I had to stay at Celaya.”

During the conversation, Alvarado also commented that in the first instance he had no intention of leaving the ranks of Cruz Azul because of the love he developed for the cement institution, but after thinking it over he decided to accept the offer from Chivas de Guadalajara.
“It was an exchange for the ‘Brujo’ (Antuna). They exchanged us, at first I did not want to leave Cruz Azul (…) at the beginning I did not want to, I thought about it and talked about it with my wife and we agreed that my cycle I had already finished in Cruz Azul to go elsewhere and the Chivas thing came out and I said yes,” added the midfielder.
