A note reads the clear stance against the invasion of Ukraine: tomorrow the decisions taken by the Executive will be made official, starting from the St. Petersburg office
Even the world of football makes its voice heard on worrying escalation of events in Ukraine: UEFA “shares the significant concern of the international community for the development of the security situation in Europe and strongly condemns the ongoing Russian military invasion of Ukraine”. According to the British media, the suspension of the assignment of the Champions League final, scheduled in Saint Petersburg for May 28, 2022, would be close.

“As the governing body of European football – reads the note -, Uefa is working tirelessly to develop and promote football according to common European values such as peace and respect for human rights, in the spirit of the Olympic Charter. resolute in our solidarity with the football community in Ukraine and we are ready to extend our hand to the Ukrainian people. ” Then, it is the last part of the press release that suggests that a change of venue for the Champions League final is a viable path: “We are facing this situation with the utmost seriousness and urgency. The decisions will be taken by the Uefa Executive and announced tomorrow”. However, the most accredited hypothesis remains a temporary suspension of the assignment and not an immediate shift.
