There Haas was the first team to publish the first images of the 2022 car on Friday 4 February, but the single-seater that came out of the pits this morning in Barcelona to carry out the filming day with Nikita Mazepin at the wheel already has some differences compared to the renderings released by the team led by Gunther Steiner almost three weeks ago while retaining some features of the virtual model. The main difference lies in the sidepods with fairing of the sides, which in the renderings narrowed towards the rear, also proposing the downwash effect to channel the flows adhering to the bodywork at the bottom in the direction of the diffuser.
However, the actual single-seater that will hit the track in the next world championship is of a completely different philosophy, with the Haas VF22 currently being the single-seater that it comes closest to the concepts proposed by Ferrari. Contrary to the dominant design guidelines of the last technical cycle, the bellies remain wide up to the rear, helping to remove the turbulence generated by the front wheels from the car body. At the same time, the overall dimensions accelerate the flows near the edge of the floor, improving the lateral extraction of air from the Venturi duct and the load generated in the center of the car. At the top, the sidepods feature a Ferrari-style hollow, although the hollow is less pronounced than on the Maranello car.
And we are GO!

Of the car presented in the renderings, the VF22 instead retains the triangular-shaped air-scope on the driver’s head, delimited only by the roll-bar. The side air intakes also remain ogival, unlike the square mouths proposed by most of the competition. Front push-rod suspension confirmed.
