President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) confirmed this Saturday (12) that he will continue his visit to Russian President Vladimir Putin next week, even amid escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine. The United States said on Friday “there is a clear possibility” of an attack by Russian troops on the neighboring country next week and urged its citizens and diplomats to leave Ukraine within the next 48 hours. Russia has also ordered its diplomats to leave Ukraine.
After granting an interview to the former governor of Rio de Janeiro, Anthony Garotinho, on Tupi de Campos dos Goytacazes radio, Bolsonaro, who is due to leave for Moscow on Monday (14), stressed the importance of trade relations between Brazil and Russia for the agribusiness. “Brazil largely depends on fertilizers from Russia, Belarus and [Belarus]. We will also bring a group of ministers to deal with other issues that are of interest to our countries, such as energy, defense and agriculture,” he said.
Regarding the instability between Russia and Ukraine, the Brazilian president said that he asked “God for peace to reign in the world for the good of all of us”. The meeting with Putin should take place on Wednesday (16). The next day, Bolsonaro is due to go to Budapest to meet with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
