The sports director of FC Barcelona, Mateo Alemany, held a talk with the students of the Sport Bussines degree from the London School of Echonomics Sports Business, which the newspaper has echoed Sports world. The director of Barça has spoken, among other things, about the future of the club.
“Xavi is doing very well in his first months. We are very happy with his work. Every time we sign players, it depends on the coach. Xavi was crucial in the decisions to incorporate the winter signings,” Alemany began by saying.
“With this squad I’m not considering not qualifying for the Champions League next season. It would be a disaster,” he added.
But as far as the next season is concerned, in the FC Barcelona transfer roadmap there is one name above the rest, that of Erling Haaland, who has opened the door to land at the Camp Nou.
“I can’t talk about names. The only thing I can say is that FC Barcelona is still one of the best clubs in the world and our goal is always to have the most competitive squad. We are working on that. Hiring a footballer is different from hiring any other type of employee. You have to take a lot into account, financial fair play, for example. It’s very complex. If we had to sell a player due to economic problems, the players from La Masia would be the last options we would consider. They are the future of our club and it is not in our plans”.
Another proper name was that of Ansu Fati: “I am sure that Ansu Fati will be very important for Barcelona. Like any other who is going through a difficult moment, the club is there for him. His environment and his family are very friendly and I am sure They’re also supporting him.”
In addition, Alemany also spoke about the event that overshadowed the summer transfer market, the departure of Leo Messi: “Unfortunately, Leo Messi’s departure was not a surprise. It was the reality of the moment. The only way for him to stay was for Barca joined something that we didn’t want to join. We decided that the club was above anyone else. We have lost a lot commercially,” he said.
To finish, the Barça director spoke about the direction that football is following: “Football is following the North American path. FIFA and UEFA have to find the right balance between the best clubs and the fans in the formats. People don’t understands the Super League as a project, but it is the best clubs that tell UEFA to count on them”, he concluded.
