Tallon groenpoor fought his way past Aslan Karatsev in three sets and has thus made it to the second round of the ABN-AMRO tennis tournament in Rotterdam. In an erratic game it became 2-6 7-6 (2) 7-6 (0) for the Haarlemmer.
Today’s first game on Center Court seemed over in no time. 1250 spectators cheering for the Dutchman could not prevent that from 2-2 in the first set Greek track only took four points. In the second set, the same scenario seemed to unfold, but from a 5-2 deficit, everything suddenly worked at Greek track. Until then, his aggressive balls often went out, now every blow was a hit. The Haarlemmer survived two match points and came back to 5-5. In the tiebreak he was superior: 7-2.
In the deciding set, three breaks were placed from 1-1, two for Karatsev. From 3-2, the Russian hit a love game and the game seemed over, but once again, Greek track showed itself to be a cat with nine lives. The Dutch number two won three games in a row from 3-5, but Karatsev was there just in time to force a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, after a double error by Karatsev, Greek track immediately made it 4-0, after which the Russian vented his frustration on his racket. The outburst of anger, however, was of no avail; Greek track did not award his opponent one point more.
In the next round, Greek track, who received a wild card from the organization, will meet the winner of the game between Serbian Filip Krajinovic and Hungarian Martin Fucsovics. In the doubles, Greek track is already finished: yesterday he lost his doubles match with Botic van de Zandschulp, which ends today with an evening match against Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles.
