The Russian Federation is not going to attack Ukraine, this is not in the interests of Moscow. Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov spoke about this on the air of the Soloviev Live YouTube channel on February 5.
“Russia is not going to attack anyone, it is unprofitable, it does not meet our interests. Building some illusory projects of Russian aggression is nonsense,” said a senior diplomat.
According to him, Washington is trying to reduce all the problems of international security to Ukraine. But this is wrong, Antonov emphasized.
As he pointed out, in the United States there is a complete understanding of the need to introduce new anti-Russian sanctions. The only question is their volume and timing.
“Unfortunately, sanctions, we expect them. Today it is difficult to say what they will be,” the diplomat added.
He said that at present there is a “swearing” between Western countries about who “will hit Russia more”.
Earlier in the day, the German tabloid Bild published a report by unnamed secret services about Russia’s alleged “plan” to annex Ukraine. The article cites a commentary by the Russian Embassy in Germany, where the statements made by the publication are called “a strange mixture of speculation and rumors.”
The publication of Bild appeared after the nightly publication of the Bloomberg agency about the alleged start of the “invasion” of the Russian Federation into Ukraine. The agency recognized the publication as erroneous and assured that it would look into the reasons.
Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the erroneous publication of Bloomberg speaks of the danger of aggressive statements by the United States and the capitals of the West. According to him, the term “fake news” can be replaced with “bloomberg news”, “which will be justified.”
As Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on Western media publications, speculation about Russia’s “invasion” of Ukraine is “a crime against the planet and democracy.” Democracy is now undergoing a colossal test, the diplomat added.
Dmitry Belik, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, added that publications in the Western media on the topic of Russia’s “invasion” of Ukraine are information strikes against the Russian Federation, contributing to the development of instability in the region and whipping up hysteria.
Western politicians and media representatives continue to spread numerous speculations about possible Russian aggression against Ukraine. Against this background, there are calls in the US and Europe for tougher sanctions against Moscow.
The Russian side has repeatedly denied such statements. On January 10, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov noted that Russia had no intentions to attack Ukraine and could not have.
