Global blocking of raw materials exports. This is it punishment “quick and serious” that Washington would inflict on Moscow in the event of an iRussian invasion of Ukraine. The US sanctions, according to some details leaked to the media, would target eexports of oil, gas and other commodities which are the basis of the Russian economy. The draft plan, which Bild reports on, would provide that the United States and its allies prevent Moscow’s exports globally, causing damage to the Russian economy of over 50 billion euros.
The sanctions would also include it stop to Russian arms exports and the expulsion of Moscow diplomats, to compromise the activities of Russian intelligence. The details of the plan would have emerged from a recent briefing between the director of the CIA, Wiiliam Burns, and the German chancellor, Olaf Scholz. A key element of the sanctions against Moscow would be represented by the controversial Nord Stream 2 pipeline linking Russia to Germany. The US wants Berlin to block the pipeline in the event of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, but so far Berlin has given uncertain answers on the matter.
According to what Bild writes, within the German government coalition, the US sanctions plan would be supported by Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and her party, the Greens, while Chancellor Scholz’s Social Democrats would appear reluctant.
