The 34th edition of the regularity race ended in Madonna di Campiglio with 130 crews at the start
The 34th edition of the Winter Marathon ended in the landscape of Madonna di Campiglio, a regularity race reserved for historic cars engaged in the incomparable backdrop of the Dolomites. The first three steps of the podium were all occupied by crews aboard the Fiat 508 C of 1937 and 1938, with Bellini and Tiberti preceding Barcella / Ghidotti and the third placed Aliverti / Valente. “The final challenge on the frozen lake – explains Mario Peserico, CEO of Eberhard – is the key to allowing everyone to closely follow a unique race”. Precisely unique in the context, but also very demanding for the 130 crews who decide to travel over 500 km in three days aboard uncovered or unheated cars, day and night even with snow and ice. “They must have great resistance to the cold – continues Peserico – and courage to spare”. And then an inordinate passion, to be distributed along 15 Dolomite passes, through 65 timed trials and six average trials with a perceived temperature of -15 °.

Passion that Miki Biasion has never lost: “The Winter Marathon gives the opportunity to enjoy these objects that have made the history of motoring. It is a race immersed in the white and silence of the snow, interrupted only by the roar of the engines. And it is a unique landscape experience “. The driver from Bassano tackled the route aboard a 1974 Lancia Stratos: “This car was the queen of Monte Carlo with Sandro Munari, to whom my greetings go for the hard battle he is fighting. To drive it on snow-covered roads you have to be delicate with the accelerator, as soon as you touch the pedal, the rear wheels release all the power to the ground ”. And speaking of Monte Carlo, Biasion reflects on the first match of the new era of WRC: “Ogier had to sweat the last two titles. The Rally1 period opens with many talents with desire and class to fight for the title. Monte Carlo is the litmus test of the cards in play. We’ll see who will win ”.

Two simultaneous events, Monte Carlo and the Winter Marathon, linked by the white of the snow. But “the red thread that unites the event of Madonna di Campiglio and Eberhard – Peserico reiterates – is the fact that they are the emblems of their respective areas. It’s not every day that you see Biasion drifting on ice. Seeing these cars on the lake gives one the sensation of being faced with technical miracles “. Two worlds, that of regularity and that of watchmaking, which meet by beating time: “The bond is strong, because we are talking about precision at the highest levels. The mechanical movements that allow the operation of a chronograph today are very similar to those that have made school. It is a world where little has changed and the products have remained the same. In watchmaking, the end of life does not exist, the products are preserved. And the same is true for these cars, which have never been afraid of ending up in a wrecker ”. And the hope is that they will never see it, so that we can continue to enjoy timeless cars.
