Sony has decided: it will enter the automotive market with a new, specially dedicated division, called Sony Mobility. It will be operational from next spring, and will be tasked with exploring the electric vehicle sector. Sony had taken a half step in this direction in 2020 with the presentation of the Vision-S concept, but subsequently had always reiterated that the car it would never go into production. The same concept has now been brought by the company to CES 2022, a showcase in which the launch of the new division dedicated to mobility was announced.
According to reports from the Financial Times, Sony’s announcement resulted in a 4.5% growth in the stock’s value on the stock market. The company’s business model will revolve around to the artificial intelligence developed internally by Sony and robotics technologies, which according to the technological society will contribute to creating a world where everyone can live in harmony with robots every day, filling people with emotions. Alongside the Vision-S, Sony has also brought a new electric SUV concept called Vision-S o2 to CES 2022: it is a battery-powered crossover in a seven-seater configuration, which uses the same connectivity platform and technology sedan and is equipped with a 268 hp electric motor mounted on each axle. The SUV will be able to exceed the maximum speed of 180 km / h.
Just as happened with the Vision-S in 2020, the Vision-S 02 was presented by Sony in an apparently production-ready form. The company explained that this maxi SUV will be equipped with high-sensitivity, high-resolution sensors that will improve safety: Sony is currently testing this technology on European roads, with the aim of launching the driving assistance systems level 2+ over the next few years. We will see if the new Vision-S 02 will actually go into production, or if it will go to the same end (still uncertain to be honest) as the Vision-S.
