The pre-knockout round has come to an end in the top continental competition. We review how all those clubs that managed to prevail in their corresponding matches have fared.
The group stage of the Champions League is over. There have been three clubs capable of winning their six games: Liverpool (Group B), Ajax Amsterdam (Group C) and Bayern München (Group E). The English have been imposed on Atlético de Madrid, FC Porto and AC Milan; the Dutch, Sporting CP, Borussia Dortmund and Besiktas JK; the Bavarians, Benfica, FC Barcelona and Dynamo Kyiv. There are seven precedent of clubs that achieved the same, with a single champion, a runner-up, three eliminated in the semifinals and two in the quarterfinals:
The rossoneri They reached the quarter-final league after eliminating Olimpija Ljubljana (7-0) and Slovan Bratislava (0-5) along the way. They won all six games, against IFK Göteborg, FC Porto and PSV Eindhoven twice, but succumbed in the final (1-0) against Olympique Marseille.
After eliminating (5-1) the Hungarian Vác FC-Samsung in the previous round, the Gauls swept Bayern München, Spartak Moscow and Dynamo Kyiv without conceding points. They eliminated FC Barcelona in the quarterfinals (2-3), but could not go to the semifinals, where AC Milan prevailed (0-3).
The Russians went straight to Group B, where they conceded no points against Legia Warsaw, Rosenborg BK or Blackburn Rovers. However, they would succumb in the quarterfinals against Nantes Atlantique (4-2).
The Catalans eliminated in the third round prior to Legia Warsaw (4-0) before landing in Group H. There they obtained all possible points against Lokomotiv Moscow, Club Brugge and Galatasaray. They made it through the second group stage against Inter, Newcastle United and Bayer 04 Leverkusen, conceding a draw in Milan and winning the rest of the games. In the quarterfinals, they could not (3-2) with Juventus.
The meringues did not give up in Group D against Olympique Lyon, Ajax Amsterdam and Dinamo Zagreb, winning every game. In the round of 16 they eliminated (2-5) CSKA Moscow and did the same with APOEL Nicosia (2-8) in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals they could not beat Bayern München (3-3 and 3-1 on penalties).
The Whites would repeat a perfect group stage by winning all their games against FC Basel, Liverpool and Ludogorets Razgrad in Group B. They left out in the round of 16 Schalke 04 (4-5) and Atlético de Madrid (0-1) in quarters, but they could not (3-2) with Juventus in the semifinals.
The Bavarians had no mercy in Group B, beating Tottenham Hotspur, Olympiacos Piraeus and Red Star in all their matches. On their way to the title, they eliminated Chelsea (1-7), FC Barcelona (2-8) and Olympique Lyon (0-3), defeating (0-1) Paris Saint Germain in the final.
