The First Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Committee (First Chamber of the CFCB) issued a statement on Friday in which it reported that eight clubs have been sanctioned for financial reasons. Specifically, the statement explains that this sanction is due “to non-compliance with the requirement of not having overdue debts.”
The eight clubs sanctioned for this reason are FC Astana (Kazakhstan), CSKA Sofía (Bulgaria), Real Betis (Spain), Cluj (Romania), Mons Calpe (Gibraltar) and CD Santa Clara, FC Porto and Sporting Club (Portugal).
These eight clubs will not be able to participate in any European competition (Champions, Europa League or Conference League) in the next three seasons even if they manage to qualify, unless they manage to demonstrate before January 31, 2022 that they can face the payment of their respective debts.
In addition to this “conditional exclusion” the First Chamber of the CFCB has also imposed an economic sanction on them. The lowest amount has been for Mons Calpe de Gibraltar who will have to pay 15,000 euros; CSKA de Sofía and Santa Clara have been fined 75,000 euros, Romanian Cluj with 150,000, Astana with 200,000, Betis and Sporting de Portugal with 250,000 and the highest penalty is for Porto, who will have to pay 300,000 euros.
In the case of Betis, the Spanish club has downplayed this sanction and through a statement clarifies that the debt is due to a deferral payment that has been agreed with Rayo Vallecano for the transfer of Álex Moreno and that in the coming weeks already It was planned to pay the outstanding amount to the Vallecano complex.
In addition, they add that there is no danger that the club could be left out of European competitions in the future and indicate that they will appeal the sanction.
