The parliamentary group of the Greens is to be led from now on by two women. After Katharina Dröge, Britta Haßelmann announced her candidacy.
Berlin – The Greens want to reposition themselves after the federal election. This also applies to the office of group chairmanship. As has now become known, Britta Haßelmann wants to apply for the office. From now on, the Greens will probably rely on a female dual leadership.
Haßelmann and Dröge: Greens are planning female dual leadership in the parliamentary group
According to information from the German Press Agency, Haßelmann announced her candidacy in a letter to the Green MPs on Friday: “I am offering you my experience; as a local politician, as a state politician and as a federal politician – and simply as your Britta ”, says the text of the previous parliamentary manager of the Greens in the Bundestag. The election is scheduled for next Tuesday (December 7th).
Before Haßelmann, the economic expert Katharina Dröge had already declared her candidacy *. She would like to lead the team “for the next few years, as one of two group chairmen,” says a letter to the Munich Mercury is present. Dröge belongs to the left wing, Haßelmann is one of the realos. This would mean that both wings of the party would be represented in the top leadership. It would only be the second time since the Greens entered the Bundestag in 1983 that the parliamentary group has been led by two women. Krista Sager and Katrin Göring-Eckardt were parliamentary group leaders between 2002 and 2005. According to the Group’s rules of procedure, at least one of the two chairmen must be a woman.
Left and Realos – the two wings of the Greens
There are two distinct wings within the greens. The fundamentalist wing (left) takes anti-capitalist and system-critical positions. The Realos are considered to be “more moderate” and want to reform the political system from within. They have fewer problems working with the conservative CDU / CSU, while the “Fundis” were even critical of general government participation in the 1990s. Robert Habeck, Annalena Baerbock or the Green Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann are attributed to the Realos. There used to be intense disputes between the two positions. In the meantime, the wing fights have become less and almost aside. There are only differences in individual political positions.
Greens: What happens to Göring-Eckardt and Hofreiter?
The previous group chairmen Katrin Göring-Eckardt and Anton Hofreiter meanwhile no longer want to run for office. Göring-Eckardt is under discussion as Vice-President of the Bundestag. Claudia Roth was actually elected to the post of Deputy President of the Bundestag at the end of October. The former party leader is, however, planned as Minister of State for Culture in the Chancellery. Hofreiter threatens to disappear into the second row of the party. Born in Munich, he lost the internal duel for the post of Minister of Agriculture against Cem Özdemir. Hofreiter has to be content with chairing a committee *.
