Kiril Petkov from the anti-corruption party PP, who is considered Bulgaria’s future head of government, is hoping for a stable government after three new elections in the EU country.
Sofia – At the first session of the newly elected parliament on Friday, he announced a coalition agreement for the coming week. “We hope (…) that we will have a government that will last four years,” said Petkov. With 67 out of 240 seats, the PP is the strongest force in the parliament in Sofia.
Head of State Rumen Radev called on the parliament, which was elected on November 14th, to adopt the necessary reforms so that Bulgaria can overcome its lag in many areas. Two parliaments elected earlier this year failed to produce governments because of unclear majorities and party disputes. The PP leadership is holding coalition talks with three parties, including the socialists (former communists) and the populist ITN party. The bourgeois GERB of former Prime Minister Boiko Borissow, who was voted out of office in April for corruption, is politically isolated. (dpa)
