The Supersport World Championship will be full of news in 2022, with a change of regulation and new incoming manufacturers, it promises to be decidedly combative. In fact, to face the next season, the CM Racing team has chosen to double up and aim for a line-up made up of two drivers. In fact, alongside the already confirmed Randy Krummenacher we will find Maximilian Kofler, who thus makes his debut in the world championship of production derivatives.
Big news at CM Racing therefore, with a double commitment and above all a new bike. As already announced some time ago, the Roman team will have a Ducati starting in 2022, thus leaving Yamaha, which dominated the series until the season just ended. The reference point of the project therefore remains the Swiss, a highly experienced driver and former world champion in the 600 class.
Kofler will thus debut in Supersport in 2022, launching himself into a new adventure after having competed in Moto3 with KTM for two seasons. The Austrian, born in 2000, had made his debut in the cadet class of the world championship as early as 2017, running as a wild card in the home race, only to repeat himself in the following two years. In the meantime he was engaged in the CIV and the CEV, before having a starting role in 2020, which was then confirmed the following year.
In 2022 Kofler will be one of the youngest riders on the grid and enthusiastically welcomes the new challenge: “First of all, I want to thank the CM Racing Team for the trust placed in me, and for the possibility of competing in the WorldSSP 2022 championship on a Ducati. Racing with this house is every rider’s dream, so I’m really happy. This change of paddock I’m sure will give me a lot of strength and motivation, with which to start the season in the best way. Having a rider like Krummenacher in the garage certainly it will help me learn quickly: I can’t wait for the day of the first test to arrive, to start working together with the whole team ”.
Manuel Cappelletti, CM Racing Team Director, says: “We are very pleased to be able to announce that we will take part in the WorldSSP 2022 championship with two riders: it is something that makes us proud because it represents the achievement of another goal. We wanted to support Krummenacher with a young driver eager to learn, and Kofler is certainly the right profile. His experience in the Moto3 world championship will certainly help him to quickly understand the mechanisms of Supersport, obviously supported by the CM Racing Team. Between January and February we will carry out the first test, during which Maximilian will be able to get to know his Ducati Panigale V2 955 and his new work team ”.
