The electric championship seems to benefit particularly from the solidity of the Gen2 car, with the wheel covers that flow into the front wing that give the body a way to resist the blows received, allowing the drivers to force overtaking without the risk of suffering damage.
Teaser images of the Gen3 machine, which were revealed Monday night, show that these fairings won’t be there, in favor of a return to a more traditional open-wheel design.
Vergne, however, had his say on driving standards in the series and asked the FIA to use a free-kick model inspired by that of karts.
Asked if Formula E was a contact sport, the DS Techeetah Vergne replied: “I think we are a very professional championship, but the cars allow repetitive contacts in order to score points.”
“The way the drivers are racing at the moment is not acceptable. I think the FIA has to do something.”
“Races like the ones we saw in London are totally unacceptable,” said the Frenchman, referring to when his teammate Antonio Felix da Costa was knocked out by André Lotterer, losing any chance to defend the title.

Vergne added that the interest in the championship by manufacturers, sponsors and the public has suffered damage for these reasons.
“Kids who watch Formula E races think we’re doing karting with friends. It can’t be like that. We’re representing a brand.”
“It’s a bad show and I really urge the FIA to do something about it, watching over certain situations more”.
“In karts the guys race more correctly than we in Formula E. There, if you hit someone you are disqualified, you don’t go and look at the reason for the episode”.
“Why can’t we do the same thing in Formula E? I don’t understand. I hope that there will be a more correct and fair way of racing, because for what I saw last season it is unacceptable”.
