Belarus will toughly respond to possible new packages of European sanctions. This was announced on November 11 by the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting with the leadership of the Cabinet of Ministers of the country, reports BelTA…
“Poland is scaring us that it will close the border. Please close: fewer fugitives will move there, ”the Belarusian leader said.
According to him, Minsk can close the transit through Belarus, while it will be impossible to pass through Ukraine, since the Russian border is closed there.
“There are no roads through the Baltics. If we close [транзит] for the Poles and, for example, for the Germans, what will happen then? ”Lukashenka asked.
He said that the Belarusian authorities would not stop in defending the country’s sovereignty. Lukashenko reminded that the transnational main export gas pipeline “Yamal – Europe” runs through the republic and threatened to cut off natural gas.
“Therefore, I would recommend that the Polish leadership, Lithuanians and other headless people think before speaking. But this is their business, ”added the President of Belarus, asking the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic to warn the Europeans about a possible response.
Earlier that day, Lukashenka instructed the Defense Ministry, the KGB and border troops to ensure control over the movement of NATO and Polish troops. According to him, 15 thousand Polish military personnel, as well as tanks, armored vehicles and aircraft, are already concentrated on the border.
On the same day, the press secretary of the Polish Foreign Ministry, Lukasz Yasina, noted that Warsaw did not intend to let illegal migrants from the Middle East into its territory.
On the eve, Poland sent a warning to Belarus about the possible complete closure of the border in case Minsk does not end the “hybrid war on the border.”
On November 10, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stressed that the European Union should discuss a blockade of flights to Belarus from the Middle East. He added that Poland insists on imposing sanctions on airlines, including Belarusian ones, which Warsaw considers to be involved in the transport of migrants.
On the same day it became known that the EU authorities are discussing the possibility of imposing sanctions against Aeroflot as part of a new package of restrictive measures against Belarus. The measures may also affect the Turkish national carrier Turkish Airlines.
The press service of Aeroflot stressed that the information about the company’s participation in organizing the mass transportation of migrants to the territory of Belarus does not correspond to reality, regular flights to Syria, Iraq and the Istanbul-Minsk route are not carried out.
