The kamikaze attack with explosives followed by a shooting shook Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, where at least a score of people were killed and dozens were affected. The Taliban government said the perpetrator of the attack is linked to the Islamic State, the biggest security threat they face today.
This Tuesday, November 2, Kabul was the scene of a new violent incident that left a significant number of deaths and injuries, something that has become customary in recent months. This time it was a suicide attack with explosives and followed by a shooting at a military hospital in the Afghan capital, killing 25 and leaving 40 wounded, according to the authorities.
The Taliban attributed this act to the jihadist group of the Islamic State, which appeared with different blows frequently since the arrival of the new Taliban government last August and that are the greatest threat to the regime and its security. So far no group has claimed the fact.
“Unfortunately we have 25 dead in today’s attack on a military hospital,” a Taliban member announced – from anonymity – to the EFE agency and raised the number of wounded to at least 40.
In addition, the source said that the initial information they handle “suggests” that this attack “was carried out by fighters of the Islamic State” and assured that it is already finished after the security forces neutralized the terrorists.
Civilian witnesses who were at the scene affirmed that firearms and hand grenades were fired in the confrontation with Taliban security.
The explosions occurred at the entrance to the Sardar Mohammad Daoud Khan military hospital, Kabul’s main military center, located in the heart of the capital, with a capacity of 400 beds and meters from the US embassy and the Afghan Ministry of Health. .
ISIS had already attacked the same military hospital
In March 2017, the health center suffered a blow similar to the one it received on Tuesday. On that occasion, claimed by the jihadist group, a suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance of the hospital.
Later, three terrorists entered shooting at point-blank range. The incident lasted more than six hours until the last insurgent was killed by Afghan troops. The balance was more than 30 dead and dozens of injured.
Since last August 15, when the Taliban took command, the IS claimed attacks in eight of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan.
The one that caused the most damage was on August 26 at the Kabul airport, which left 170 fatalities when they tried to flee the country on repatriation flights.
Another attack of the deadliest attacks occurred on October 8 against a Shiite mosque which left 80 dead and 100 wounded in Kunduz; a week later, a similar one was off the southern Kandahar, with 60 dead.
