Next season’s Formula 1 World Championship will present not only with many new regulations and with the addition of new appointments on the calendar, but will also realize some excellent transfers of drivers currently engaged with certain teams to other, future realities. The most interesting market move, in this sense, will focus on the one already made official by the Mercedes, which will welcome George Russell in place of Valtteri Bottas, in turn destined for Alfa Romeo (the only team that has not yet announced its official driver duo for next year).
The arrival of the young English talent, now part of Williams, has already sparked the opinion of various spectators and professionals, many of whom are almost completely convinced that Russell’s hunger for success could put in serious difficulty. Lewis Hamilton, thus generating friction between the two new teammates. A philosophy that seems to partially agree with a driver who, in 2007, played the role of teammate of the seven-time world champion at the wheel of McLaren: Fernando Alonso.
The two-time Spanish world champion has in fact reiterated that 2022 will represent a more difficult challenge for the number 44, with the latter having never lost his leadership within his team against Bottas in recent years. When asked about the future that will await Russell in Mercedes, Alonso answered this question as follows: “He has certainly shown what his talent and speed are on several occasions – analyzed the Asturian – last year, for example, he was recalled by Mercedes to take part in the Bahrain GP, and almost ended it with what would have been his first victory. Consequentially, it will be a more challenging battle for Lewis compared to what it was with Valtteri. In any case – finished – it will be Mercedes’ job to provide him with a competitive car, and I am sure he is ready for the challenge. It will certainly be interesting to see ”.
