The National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) appointed the technical director Daniela Kinoshihta Ota to accompany the work of Prevent Senior. The health care provider is investigated for allegedly using, without consent, patients as guinea pigs to test early treatment against covid-19. It is also suspected of tampering with medical records and death certificates. The company’s management denies the accusations.
According to the measure, published in the Official Gazette this Wednesday, 13, the technical director will monitor the company’s procedures “in loco” to identify actions that put at risk the continuity and quality of service provided to users of the operator. Prevent Senior informed that the ANS decision is “positive” for the clarification of the facts and that it will collaborate with the technical direction.
In a statement, ANS stressed that this is not an intervention and that the company will continue to function normally. The agency also informed that the decision was taken at a meeting of the collegiate board and reiterated that it only became aware of the complaints against Prevent Senior through the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) which is investigating alleged irregularities in the management of the covid-19 pandemic.
“It is important to clarify that this is not an intervention, as the ANS does not interfere in the operator’s management, but a monitoring with permanent analysis of information and definition of goals to be met by the operator”, says the note.
Based on this diagnosis, the operator will prepare an Assistance Sanitation Program (PSA). The document will define actions, persons responsible and deadlines for the activities. The technical direction regime has a maximum duration of 365 days. It will be concluded with the presentation of a report made by the technical director. The document will be sent to ANS, which will decide what measures will be adopted.
Prevent Senior Denies Compelling Doctors to Prescribe Chloroquine
In a dossier delivered to the CPI, doctors who worked for the operator in São Paulo reported that drugs already known to be ineffective against covid-19, such as ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, were administered to patients without their knowledge.
The document points out that studies were carried out with the medicines without the proper authorizations. He also claims that doctors were pressured to prescribe the drugs. There are also reports of alleged changes in medical records and death certificates. The objective would be to hide the covid-19. Prevent denies all charges.
In testimony to the CPI last week, the director-president of ANS, Paulo Roberto Rebello Filho, stated that he was not aware of the accusations. “The facts brought about in this CPI are extremely serious,” Rebello Filho told the CPI. “We were surprised by these new reports.”
The note from ANS informed that this is the sixth time that Daniela Ota acts as technical director in a health plan. She has a degree in physical therapy and health management and an MBA in health.
Also through a note, Prevent Senior informed that “it sees the ANS decision as positive. The technical analysis and inspection of the agency will re-establish the truth of the facts. Prevent will collaborate with total transparency with the technical direction regime and with the other inspection bodies”.
