The 68th edition of the Brazilian University Games (JUBs) began last Monday (11). And the event had to face a challenge for its realization, the pandemic of the new coronavirus (covid-19).
The president of the Brazilian Confederation of University Sports (entity that organizes the event), Luciano Cabral, explained the care taken to carry out the JUBs in the current context: “We respect all opinions, but we are taking all precautions with the use of masks, alcohol gel, social distancing and testing of all participants”.
The official also spoke of one of the event’s vocations, that of revealing new talents, which even reach the Olympic Games: “The Olympic cycle will be shorter and, naturally, we will have athletes in Paris [2024], but the most important thing is the experience they have here”.
Nine athletes who participated in the Tokyo Olympics – such as Yasmim Lima (judo), Paulo André (athletics) and Guilherme Basseto (swimming) – are in the 68th edition of the JUBs. The event runs until next Sunday (17) in Brasília, involving more than three thousand athletes from four hundred educational institutions in the country.
