Rafael Louzán Abal, president of the Galician Football Federation since 2014, is the great favorite to win the elections for the presidency of the Spanish Football Federation tomorrow, Monday, and thus succeed the disqualified and short-lived Pedro Rocha. Louzán has two contenders, both also federative of the territorial ones: Salvador Gomar, the president of Valenciana, and Sergio Merchán, of Extremeña, who appears as a man from Louzán.
Louzán was the one agreed upon by the majority of the 19 territorial entities and the one that presented the greatest number of endorsements (51), support that he claims to have increased in recent days. The voting assembly members are 142.
The problem for Louzán is legal. He is disqualified for seven years from holding public office for having been convicted of prevarication (he gave an improper subsidy when he was president of the Provincial Council of Pontevedra) and is awaiting a ruling from the Supreme Court that is due to be issued in February and that must be confirmed. or not his conviction. Louzán claims that the Federation is a private and not a public entity.
THE CSD
If Louzán wins, he will take the appointment to the TAD
Thus, the Higher Sports Council (CSD) has agreed that Louzán can run but has confirmed that if he wins he would take his appointment to the Sports Administrative Court (TAD) to request disqualification. All the last presidents of the Federation have lost office as disqualified: Ángel Villar, Luis Rubiales and Pedro Rocha. Louzán would be the fourth.
A man who confesses to be very close to Pedro Rocha, Louzán (57 years old) accuses Salvador Gomar of being Luis Rubiales’ man. He also blames him for having betrayed the territorial agreement. Gomar (1965), president of Valenciana since 2018, is presented with only 25 endorsements. He says that he is doing it to regenerate the Federation because he was not satisfied with a talk with Louzán. Merchán has not even presented his project. La Liga and Javier Tebas support Louzán.
