The Governing Board of the Madrid City Council has approved assigning the name José María Carrascal park to the green space located between Ginzo de Limia streets and Cardenal Herrera Oria avenue, in the Fuencarral-El Pardo district, of which it was a neighbor. as announced by the vice mayor and municipal spokesperson, Inma Sanz, after the district plenary session decided in its December 2023 session. After publishing the agreement in the Official Gazette of the Madrid City Council, the new name of this park located in the La Paz neighborhood will be registered in the official street map.
José María Carrascal was born in El Vellón, Madrid, in 1930. Journalist and writer known for his unique style and extensive career in the media, he began his career as a correspondent in various international capitals such as New York, London, Bonn and Vienna. He worked for important media such as ABC, La Vanguardia, La Razón and El Diario de Barcelona.
In the early 1990s, he returned to Spain and became a well-known face thanks to his work as a presenter for Antena 3 Noticias. During his time on television, he stood out for his peculiar communication style, his direct character and his unmistakable clothing. He was a pioneer in providing a more personal tone to the news, which made him a very popular and recognizable figure for viewers.
In the literary field, Carrascal wrote around twenty books of both fiction and political analysis, novels and popular books. He was awarded various awards throughout his career such as the Nadal Prize for his novel Groovy in 1972, the Luca de Tena Prize for journalism and the Mariano de Cavia Prize, recognizing his contribution to the Spanish news landscape.
