First step for the comprehensive reform of Alcázar de Toledo street

The Local Government Board of the Santander City Council will approve this Monday, December 2, the technical project for the comprehensive reform of Alcázar de Toledo Street with the aim that the works can begin before the summer. He has also assured that the City Council is working to expedite the project as much as possible and has advanced that The objective is to tender the works at the beginning of 2025 so that work can begin before next summer. Furthermore, the City Council and the neighbors have agreed that, once the work has been awarded, the different phases of the work will be coordinated and the summer will be taken into account, with the aim of minimizing effects on the environment.

CURB ALIGNMENTS WILL BE CHANGED

The project maintains the cross section consisting of two side sidewalks and central road. The curb alignments will be modified to obtain a 3.60 meter wide circulation lane and a parking strip on the left side of 2.10 meterswidening sidewalks to a minimum width of 1.80 meters. In addition, pedestrian crossings will be relocated and overhead lines will be buried.

Likewise, the existing pedestrian crossing between the intersections with Tres de Noviembre and Isaac Peral streets will be moved to the south, placing it before the intersection with Tres de Noviembre, so as to allow direct permeability between this street and the pedestrian crossing. located at the beginning of Fernández de Isla street. TA new pedestrian crossing will also be built following the intersection with Isaac Peral Street to facilitate the new pedestrian flows generated by the new protected housing promoted by the City Council in the area..

The action foresees the urbanization of the square that is generated in the bifurcation between Alcázar de Toledo and Fernández de Isla streets, with a large central planter and a small garden area, eliminating the existing step in front of a portal. Likewise, the furniture will be reinforced with the placement of trash cans; The existing public lighting on facades already equipped with LED technology will be maintained and the lighting will be reinforced at the confluence of Alcázar de Toledo and Fernández de Isla streets. In addition, the necessary space has been reserved for waste collection services, including the fifth container.

The renovation of this area of ​​the city will be complemented by an inartistic intervention at number 17 Fernández de Isla. To this end, the City Council has proposed to the residents a mural of historical photography of the CDIS – which they would choose themselves -, with the aim of creating a unique space of which they feel proud, that provides identity and safeguards the memory of the neighborhood.
