Amazon is also joining the AI race. According to the portal The Informationthe shopping giant on-line prepares the launch of a new generative artificial intelligence capable of processing images and videos, as well as simple text. A useful novelty, aimed at reducing Amazon’s dependence on chatbot Claude from Anthropic, the company in which he trusts and in which he has invested nearly 8 billion dollars so far. Codenamed ‘Olympus’, in fact, this new large linguistic model will be able to analyze images and videos to identify specific scenes based on the text indication generated by users: just ask the AI to find “a winning basketball shot” to see all the scenes that contain it.
A capacity that undoubtedly represents a huge step forward in AI’s ability to analyze multimedia – which, until now, was limited almost exclusively to understanding text. The possibility of integrating Olympus into AWS services, among other things, could considerably improve the experience of Amazon users: the new AI model could, in fact, be integrated into the analysis of security videos of the company’s products , in the creation of new interactive experiences or, more simply, in the indexing of multimedia content.
Amazon’s announcement of Olympus should be imminent, considering that a source close to the company stated that the new AI model could be presented next week at the ‘AWS re:Invent’ event. Amazon has not confirmed this rumor. Apart from that, what is really interesting is the fact that the online shopping giant has finally decided to demonstrate that artificial intelligence is not at all a technology exclusive to Google, Microsoft and OpenAI, which, by the way, is already preparing the launch of its new Orion model for December.
