After leading the Euroleague after the first few days, Barça is falling apart, suffering its third consecutive continental defeat against Real Madrid this Thursday. “It’s a shame that it escaped us in the end because we did a lot of things well, but we lacked some wisdom to play those final minutes,” Peñarroya lamented in the Palau press room after the duel.
The Barça coach went further when talking about the first decisive moment of the match, the final stretch of regulation time. “We had won the game but Campazzo’s triple…,” he dropped.
Peñarroya insisted in his speech: “It has been a match in which no one has completely dominated with consistency. In important moments, Madrid has scored important baskets and we have not. It is true in the final stretch there have been situations in which we could have done better but we have fought and made a great effort, I am sure that this will teach us,” he anticipated.
Finally, the coach revealed that the new signing, Raul Neto, could not play anymore because he noticed some discomfort in his adductor. “With Núñez’s farm we would have needed him more,” he said.
For his part, Chus Mateo, Real Madrid coach, did not want to show his chest too much, insisting that the duel belonged to the regular phase and was not decisive. Of course, he did not lack joy. “We have been able to break that streak that had us a little anxious in a field that is not easy like the Palau,” he noted, remembering that Barcelona’s victory is their first away victory of the European season. “I have players who believe, who have pride, heart and who are fantastic,” he added.
