After the DANA disaster that mainly affected the Valencia area, the Council of Ministers approved this Thursday by Royal Decree the prohibition of companies that use dynamic prices, that is, whose rates for the same service vary depending on demand –for example, VTC services such as Uber, Cabify or Bolt– do not increase them in “contexts of urgency, risk or need of the consumer.”
The measure also affects other cases in which a commercial offer does not set an exact price, such as online accommodation rental. In this way, the Executive intends to reinforce the protection that consumers have. in times of catastrophe as has occurred with DANA.
Likewise, it has been agreed to limit the price for the sale of motor vehicles within the Auto+ Restart Plan. This plan has been approved to provide financial aid to all those people, natural or legal, who need to buy any type of motor vehicle because they lost theirs during DANA, and specifies that points of sale that adhere to this program cannot sell cars to affected people at prices that are higher than those on October 28the day the flood took place.
The points of sale of this type of vehicles that wish to join this plan must reflect on the invoice the average price of those vehicles that were sold during the month of September 2024, having to be vehicles of the same model and with the same characteristics. including extras and customizations. In this way, the aim is to guarantee that the price is not higher than that registered before the DANA.
This measure has been proposed by the Minister of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, Pablo Bustinduyin cooperation with the Ministry of Economy. The limitation is materialized through a modification in the General Law for the Defense of Consumers and Users.
The Consumer initiative follows the line launched on November 11, when Bustinduy prohibited funeral services from offering prices higher than those in force or those announced prior to October 28. “A tragedy of these characteristics cannot be a context that gives rise to the economic benefit of any operator,” the minister stressed.
On the other hand, the Royal Decree approved this Thursday includes an extraordinary item of three million euros through the Royal Board on Disability. This money will be used to cover works to rebuild infrastructure that allows accessibility for people with disabilities in homes that have been damaged. This fund will be used to pay for the purchase of materials such as wheelchairs or hearing aids.
