Podemos has denounced “the political violence” that a Vox deputy has exercised against his deputy Martina Velarde this Thursday in Congress. As reported by Velarde herself on social networks, when she finished her speech, parliamentarian Pedro Fernández snapped at her: “Mrs. Velarde, have you taken the pill?“.
A comment that the ERC spokesperson, Gabriel Rufianhas been the first to denounce in the Lower House. “One of these guys told him ‘Take the pill.’ They are emboldened like never before, and if we don’t put our foot on the wall they are going to eat us“, he said to the applause of the Podemos bench.
The deputy of the purple formation has stated that situations like these are what have to “support the women who do politics having Vox in Congress” and thanked Rufián “for not remaining silent in the face of the machismo and misogyny of this band.”
Velarde has also shown his gratitude, making gestures from his seat and applauding, along with his Podemos colleagues and part of the chamber, the comment of Maria Jesus Moro. As soon as she took the stand in the same debate, the PP deputy said, putting her hand on her chest: “Martina, my support, my consideration and all the women: ‘We are not going to tolerate it“.
“This is the political violence that the far-right of Vox exercises day in and day out against the women of Podemos. All my support and love, Martina Velarde. They will not pass and they will not bend us“said, for her part, the general secretary of training, Ione Belarra.
After the session, Velarde and Belarra themselves registered a complaint with the president of Congress, Francina Armengol, to ask that the deputy’s behavior be sanctioned.
