One of the biggest complications and frustrations when using an electric car is recharging. Although the infrastructure, depending on the country we are in, is still not widespread enough, there are additional problems for many drivers that are causing a little chaos in some facilities. The lack of regularization and standardization has to be corrected by service providers like Tesla. The Americans have already announced that they are finally remedying one of the most typical problems of its fast charging facilities. Superchargers are being updated.
It’s no secret that Tesla’s Supercharger network has become the gold standard when it comes to fast charging. Elon Musk’s company has been leading for years not only the sale of electric cars, but also the necessary and mandatory charging infrastructure that accompanies them. Its points are recognized throughout the world as the best, both in power, reliability and stability.. Over the years, Tesla engineers have increased the capacities and qualities of their stations. Stations that have been open to other manufacturers for some time, which has caused somewhat chaotic situations. The price is most competitive.
Longer cables to avoid problems at fast charging stations
In a maneuver as generous as it is economically interesting, Tesla decided to open its charging points to other electric car users. The superchargers, until then exclusive to Tesla vehicles, today receive visits from thousands of cars other than the company. In the United States such is their dominance that The industry has unofficially adopted Tesla’s NACS charging system as the charging standard for all electric vehicles that inhabit the country. In Europe, however, regulations require the CCS charging system to be used as a general charging system. All vehicles are adapted to it.
Despite this minimal standardization, there are still many steps to complete for the loading procedure to become normalized. Such as payment and management platforms or the location of charging points on vehicles. Today, depending on the car, they can be located from the nose to the rear, passing through the front wings. The fact of not specifying a precise point, as happens with combustion cars, has forced Tesla to overhaul its fast charging points so that there are no tense and uncomfortable moments for its users. Today, some of them have to occupy several spaces to be able to load.
Tesla has now acknowledged that is increasing the length of the charging cables in its new V4 posts to avoid complications for users. Over the next 18 months there will be more Superchargers with long cables than short ones. The goal is that no vehicle ever has to occupy more than two cargo spaces to load. Tesla is pushing for manufacturers to locate their charging points in the rear of the vehicle, regardless of the side, which according to them will allow perfect compatibility with the more than 30,000 charging stations around the world. It is clear that the industry needs to standardize the charging process to make life easier for its users.
