More effort and more commitment with infrastructures that are key for Aragon, and also for Spain, such as the Canfranc and the Central Crossing of the Pyrenees (TCP). This is the request that the Minister of Development of the Government of Aragon, Octavio López, made during the inauguration of the RailLive 2024the international railway congress.
López has advocated shortening the deadlines for reopen the connection between the towns of Canfranc (Huesca) and Pau (France). A demand that has been made in the presence of José Alfonso Gálvez, general director of Mobility Strategies of the Ministry of Transport and about which he has already assured that “it will not be enough to satisfy the logistics needs in the 21st century.”
Given this situation, the counselor has urged the Government of Spain to make a greater effort in order to convince the French Executive and the European institutions of the need to connect both parts of the Pyrenees with a high capacity line to exchange goods through the central part of this mountain range. A step that would also allow decongest those of Irún and Portbou.
It is a line of work that López has explained is being worked on by the Aragonese community. “We’re trying. We’re doing everything we can.”
In fact, he recalled that last week the President of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcón, claimed in Brussels, during his presence at the Committee of the Regionsthat the Central Pyrenean Crossing be undertaken and the reduction of times to reopen the railway connection between Canfranc and Pau.
“We are going to continue to be very heavy,” added López, who inaugurated this congress during which he in turn highlighted Aragon’s ability to attract investments, adding close to 40,000 million in 2024, and the logistical and business growth. .
