The judge of the National Court Eloy Velasco charged against Podemos and against the former Minister of Equality Irene Montero during a conference for what is known as the ‘only yes means yes’ law, approved in 2022. “They tried to explain to us what consent means… “To a jurist, who we have been following since Roman law, knowing what consent is (…) and a thousand other things that Irene Montero will never learn from her Mercadona cashier,” said Velasco, as can be seen in a video published by El País.
His words took place at a conference at the V International Compliance Week, held on November 13, an event in which participants pay between 300 and 400 euros to attend. The forecast was for Velasco to speak for an hour and a half in an expert opinion course and he used part of his time to criticize the PSOE and Podemos coalition government.
Among other things, the magistrate questioned its legitimacy: “I understand that, when you are the fifth political party that has lost the elections, and you have four cats, but the second party that has lost needs them [PSOE] to move in number of members to the first game that has won [PP]your legitimacy is much less than if you had won the elections.” Velasco is referring to the last elections, in which Podemos, who participated within Sumar, were together the fourth most voted force, not the fifth.
Velasco, who was an instructor of the Púnica or Lezo plots, affirms that the PSOE left the “María subjects” – in reference to the distribution of ministries in the coalition – for the party currently led by Ione Belarra and “the important ones” for the socialists. “I don’t know if they thought they were very important, but that’s what they did to them,” he insists.
At that moment is when the magistrate assures that in this formation “they believed” that they were “showing the world” to the jurists when the Ministry of Equality carried out the ‘only yes means yes’ law. “To a jurist, who has been around since Roman law, knowing what consent is. And the express, and the tacit consent, and the consequent acts. And a thousand more things that Irene Montero will never learn from her Mercadona ATM nor will she be able to teach the rest of us.”
El País, which has had access to the extracts about Podemos, assures in its information that the association that organizes the event has refused to facilitate the complete recording of Velasco’s talk.
