The National Police has dismantled an international organization that He was allegedly engaged in the illegal trafficking of citizens between the Dominican Republic and Spain. In the operation, 36 people have been arrested, 34 of them in Madrid and the rest in Brazil and the Dominican Republic, the Corps reported in a statement. Among those detained are the two main ringleaders of the network, who are already in prison.
The operation has been carried out with the participation of AMERIPOL, INTERPOL, the Federal Police of Brazil, the National Police of the Dominican Republic and the Municipal Police of Madrid, the note adds.
The actions were carried out with the ‘look alike’ method, through which immigrants overcame border controls using valid passports of people naturalized in Spain and with whom they had a “reasonable” physical resemblance.
Last October, investigations began following a series of information that had been received at the AMERIPOL Center against Trafficking and Immigrant Smuggling in Brazil. According to the police statement, this agency spoke of the “possible existence” of a transnational organization that intended for citizens of the Dominican Republic to access Spain irregularly using authentic national documents in a fraudulent manner. In addition to these two countries, the plot was also present in Brazil.
Initially, eight people of Dominican origin with Spanish nationality were arrested in Madrid. They would have sold their documents to the organization for around 500 euros. As determined by the Police, the passports were later transferred to the Dominican Republic and there they were delivered to citizens for amounts of about 5,000 euros. That price included plane tickets, as well as accommodation in intermediate countries, such as Brazil, until they finally arrived in Spain.
In the second phase, the Police arrested seven other people belonging to the plot in Madrid, including the two top ringleaders, who are already in jail. Also to 19 other citizens who had sold their documents. Besides, The agents have seized a vehicle, seven mobile terminals, 30 grams of cocaine, 13 passports, 3,440 euros in cash and two false foreign identity cards.
Finally, with international collaboration, two other members of the network were arrested, one in the Dominican Republic and the other in Brazil, who were in charge of logistical functions, as well as recruiting immigrants.
