The Civil Guard has arrested a man who was traveling with a checked suitcase with 17 kilograms of cocaine at the Barcelona-El Prat Airport, which is accused of a crime against public health for drug trafficking, reported this Sunday in a statement.
The agents observed through risk assessment systemsincluded in the usual security and prevention controls at the airport, a suitcase with a compartment full of packages of drugs, known as bricks.
During the inspection of the passenger’s luggage, the agents detected that the substance, distributed in 15 bricks, was hidden inside the passenger’s checked baggage, yielding a positive result in cocaine to the drug test and with a total weight of 16.96 kilograms.
A few days earlier, a criminal organization known as “narcos from heaven“was dismantled by a joint operation of the National Police and the Polícia Judiciária of Portugal and Europol. This group was dedicated to introduce tons of cocaine in Europe by air thanks to the use of private planes, resorting to financing from Chinese businessmen.
This operation allowed the arrest of 25 people, 19 in Spain and six in Portugal, as reported by the National Police in a press release in which it stated that the investigation had taken place in Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Cuenca and Plasencia (Cáceres). . As a consequence, it has been decreed admission to provisional prison without bail for 16 of them.
