The federal coordinator of Izquierda Unida, Antonio Maíllo, launched this Saturday in Madrid Call for Democracy, the process that the organization wants to promote with the aim of putting the left on the offensive to stop the advance of the right and the extreme right. .
Maíllo has defined this project as “a change of mood on the left that can’t be in shock nor cowed.” In his opinion, although “the moment is complicated, they cannot take away our joy because then they defeat us.”
The IU leader has advanced that this process will have several phases; After officially launching it this Saturday, through a manifesto that includes a series of political objectives in this reconstruction of the left, Maíllo has asked to extend the project “to all municipalities and cities in the State.”
The objective is for citizens to be able to contribute with proposals, so that they “put together the tiles of a mosaic,” explained Maíllo. This deployment of the Call for Democracy at the territorial level will begin in January. The Andalusian leader has advanced that the process will conclude in spring.
“We are about to change the mood and I ask you to leave here to your territories to transmit this initiative. We can only build something solid in defense of a democracy that needs more democracy if it is done in a participatory manner,” defended the federal coordinator of Izquierda Unida.
“We cannot stay in the trenches of the resistance”
“It is not enough just with shake up the scarecrow that the extreme right comes fromwe must go on the offensive,” Maíllo insisted. The text that promotes this process is called Manifesto for an economic, social and ecological democracyand includes the lines that will mark the debate that IU wants to have with the citizens.
“Because we cannot remain alone in the trenches of the resistance, we need take a leap towards purposeful actionto build a collective country project that allows us to move from fear to hope, from individualism to the common good, and from inequality to social justice,” reads the manifesto.
A manifesto includes the objectives of the process, which will continue in January and conclude in spring
The text proposes “a deepening of democracy” that is based on “a distribution of work, time and care; universal and strong public services; the right to housing; strategic resources at the service of everyone; a State for dignity and equality; and a host country that considers migration to be a strength.
“This Call is committed to an inclusive alliancewhich adds the voices of feminism, environmentalism and each social movement, because only with a broad popular alliance can we build a just society,” continues the manifesto, which concludes with “power of the people, to live better.”
