The president of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, warned this Friday that he will defend the interests of the Community “in all places and starting with the courts” regarding the distribution of tax revenues due to the weight of the GDP “which seems to be able to be consolidated”, in reference to the tax reform approved on Thursday by the Government and its partners. “We will be very vigilant because it would mean the breakdown of territorial cohesion, equality and solidarity.”
After an hour of meeting with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in which he once again raised the need for a multilateral negotiation of regional financing, Mañueco acknowledged that he left the meeting “without specific commitments” to the battery of projects and proposals that took Moncloa, although he trusted that they will materialize in the sectoral meetings that ministers will hold with councilors starting in January.
From a constructive and vindictive will, the president of the Board has highlighted that these are feasible, realistic, fair and essential projects for the interests of the Community. Among them, Fernández Mañueco has stressed the need for the Government to definitively promote the Atlantic Corridor and connect the nine provinces of the Community. In this sense, it has demanded that the central Executive have the same investment commitment as the Mediterranean Corridor, as it is vital for the development of the entire northwest of Spain.
Within this area, he recalled that sThe burying of tracks in Valladolid, León and Palencia is still pending; and more than fifteen state-level actions on highways and railways.
The president of the Board has also urged the head of the central Executive to undertake the pending actions regarding digitalization and connectivity, with the aim of that 100% of the Community territory has broadband coverage and 5G on equal terms, both in urban and rural environments. A measure that would facilitate the competitiveness of companies and the self-employed, and the settlement of the population.
In energy matters, he recalled that Castilla y León leads the production of clean and renewable energy. For this reason, it has demanded “as essential” the improvement of the infrastructure of the electrical network and that the regulations in this area be made more flexible so that energy is not only exported to more industrialized areas, but also distributed throughout the Community. and, thus, be able to satisfy the demand of companies. Furthermore, he has indicated that regulation of large industrial self-consumption is essential, since the current regulations are designed for small installations and do not serve to meet the plans and initiatives planned in the industrial estates of Castilla y León. “We are not going to allow the energy we produce to continue passing us by”he stated.
During the meeting, the head of the autonomous Government stated that the current Duero Hydrological Plan does not respond to the needs linked to the development of irrigation, livestock and other activities and has also requested to increase the regulatory capacity in the Duero Basin, as well as its storage capacity to take advantage of the dammed water for supply and irrigation. Within this matter, Fernández Mañueco has requested that all reservoir infrastructure be streamlined, pending sanitation and water purification; as well as that channel cleaning be carried out where appropriate to avoid flooding during floods.
Public services
Fernández Mañueco has once again demanded that the central Executive address the national problem of the lack of doctors, through an improvement of the MIR system; offering serious and effective measures, such as expediting the approval of non-EU physicians and extending the active age of professionals, among others.
Furthermore, in the field of public services, it has also reiterated the need for a single EBAU for all of Spain and has demanded from the State the necessary financing for the implementation of the new Organic Law of the University System.
Regarding housing, the president of the Board has requested the transfer of SAREB homes in Castilla y León; measures aimed at encouraging the construction of public housing by private developers; and others that provide legal security to owners and increase supply in the rental market. Likewise, in support of the rural environment, it has demanded the withdrawal of the plan that includes eliminating bus stops in 346 municipalities of Castilla y León.
On the other hand, Fernández Mañueco has addressed actions to support companies and workers in the Community, such as the maximum application of the aid authorized by Europe for companies in Soria, Cuenca and Teruelthat is, up to 20% of labor costs; and advance formulas that benefit other areas with population loss. Likewise, it has demanded the reduced rate, tax exemptions and bonuses in Social Security contributions for the self-employed.
Regarding one of the most important sectors for Castilla y León, such as the automotive sector, Sánchez has proposed a meeting of the Automotive Board for the competitiveness of the sector and, in turn, guarantees a fair transition between decarbonization and the maintenance of employment and activity.
During the meeting at La Moncloa, he also claimed greater support for the countryside and farmers from the Government and recalled that the aid for the drought only reached half of those affected and the support for livestock farmers for the Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease was paid exclusively by the Board.
Furthermore, the president of the Board has addressed the need to increase irrigated areas in the Duero Hydrological Plan and to finalize the actions that the Government has pending in this area to generate wealth in rural areas; and, also, the defense of a CAP that adapts to the real needs of farmers and ranchers and facilitates the viability of farms.
Likewise, he has urged the president of the central government to reconsider stance on wolf protectionwhich in the vast majority of European Union countries have already requested to be lowered.
