The new coach Jan Siewert is hoping for a surprise effect before his debut in the second Bundesliga with SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the home game on Saturday (1 p.m.) against promotion candidate Karlsruher SC. “We are initially in a situation where we face an opponent who perhaps doesn’t necessarily know what to expect. We want to make the KSC think,” said Siewert, who replaced interim coach Leonhard Haas during the international break after three competitive defeats in a row.
The former coach of Huddersfield Town and FSV Mainz 05 wants to convey dynamism to the unsettled Fürth team. “It’s about activity, it’s about the fact that we want to radiate energy, we want to win balls and develop good possession of the ball,” said the 42-year-old. Siewert is satisfied with the first impressions of his team. “There was real energy there from day one,” he said. The Karlsruhe team, who recently extended their contract with coach Christian Eichner until the summer of 2027, would represent a “big task”. “We are prepared,” emphasized Siewert.
