Despite the fact that prices are more affordable, in October domestic tourism experienced a very slight improvement, at least in terms of hotel overnight stays. According to the Hotel Tourism Situation report published today by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), overnight stays carried out by people living in our country increased by 0.1% compared to the same month last year. For their part, those of non-residents improved by 6.7%.
That is to say, there is finally a slight recovery in a figure that has remained negative throughout the summerundoubtedly influenced by prices. In October, hotels billed 115.9 euros on average per room, which is 5.1% more than in the same month of the previous year but much less than the 125.2 euros in September (7% more) and the 146. August 9 (6.4%).
Correlatively, in July, when the price per night was 140.5 euros, the number of Spanish travelers who stayed in a hotel fell by 4.39%, four times more than in the same month of the previous year.
If the data from both residents and non-residents are taken, the tenth month of the year shows an increase of 4.7% compared to the same month in 2023, exceeding 33.9 million travelers in total. This means that 62% of the places offered were filledwith an annual increase of 2.4%. The weekend occupancy rate by places, in turn, grew by 2.5% and stood at 68%.
By autonomous community, Andalusia, Catalonia and the Valencian Community were the main destinations for travelers residing in Spain in October, with 17.2%, 12.2% and 11.6% of total overnight stays respectively. For its part, The main destinations of non-residents were the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands and Catalonia, with 27%, 23.6% and 16.7% of the total respectively.
