Traditional German clubs are synonymous with chaos clubs, it is often said disparagingly, and what can you say? Nothing is known yet about a wave of legal warnings being issued from Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg or Munich-Giesing if the bad word was once again brought into connection with what was happening in the office and/or on the lawn. South of the Alps, on the other hand, the traditional club’s neologism does not exist, which is probably due to the fact that (despite active investor commitments) no one has yet come up with the idea of allowing RB Livorno or Grana Padano 04 Bologna to start in the top Italian league bring. But chaos clubs? Si, si! And they continue to set new standards in this category.
“Caos Piacenza,” was the verdict Gazzetta dello Sport with a view to what happened on Wednesday in Emilia-Romagna. Because Piacenza Calcio, a proud club from which, among others, the Inzaghi brothers Filippo and Simone come, has achieved a real feat: three coaches were employed by the now fourth-rate club (due to insolvency) in just one day – even that number is equal to that number FC Schalke 04 only if you look at the entire season and include an interim coach. In any case, in Piacenza, sports director Alessio Sestu and the unsuccessful Carmine Parlato were thrown out in the morning, after which Simone Bentivoglio was installed as his successor and was allowed to lead a morning training session. However, Bentivoglio only lasted a few hours in the job because he was once involved in a betting scandal and the fans therefore mobilized against the personnel, including by storming the pitch during the training session. Bentivoglio vacated his post on Wednesday afternoon for Stefano Rossini, the direct predecessor of Parlato, who was first dismissed. According to reports from Thursday, the 53-year-old is still in office.
Even the great Zampano would probably be proud of what happened in Piacenza
The enormous speed that was set in Piacenza is shown by the fact that the feared inventor of this reactivation method, Maurizio Zamparini, who died in 2022, once took several weeks to do this. The Zamparini was the sole ruler of the US Palermo from 2002 to 2017 and was a big fan when it came to coach wear and tear; depending on the database, he changed the coach up to 61 times. If he couldn’t think of a suitable successor, he would gladly appoint the predecessor of the person he had just thrown out the door into office. Francesco Guidolin alone returned three times. “My wife could pitch better than this good-for-nothing,” Zamparini once mocked Guidolin. Only to hire it again a little later.
What can Germany learn from this? Nothing. Nevertheless, the relatively new Schalke coach Kees van Wonderen is strongly recommended not to lose the second division game on Saturday at HSV. And if his predecessor Karel Geraerts should always be easily reachable on his cell phone: throw it in the hazardous waste.
