Alfred Costa has resigned as general director of Valencian public television À Punt “for personal reasons” after almost five years in office, as he himself announced in a statement.
This resignation comes after it became known that the president of the Valencian Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, maintained a ““private work lunch” on DANA day, October 29, with journalist Maribel Vilaplana to address the possibility that directed the regional television À Punt.
The general director until now wanted to highlight “the titanic effort and personal sacrifice” of a good part of the staff and management teams during DANA’s “extraordinary coverage” which, in its case, has allowed the chain to “reconnect like never before with a good part of the citizens.”
Costa has also stated in the statement that he is confident that his resignation “allows to accelerate” the transformation of public media of communication provided for by the new Law of the Societat Anònima de Mitjans de Comunicació (SAMC).
