Sweden began sending a 32-page document to its citizens this Monday, urging them to prepare for the possibility of warwhile Finland launched a website that compiles useful advice in case of conflict.
Both countries abandoned decades of military non-alignment to join NATO following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Since the war broke out between Russia and Ukraine, Sweden has repeatedly urged its population to prepare mentally and logistically for the possibility of war.
A brochure titled “If crisis or war comes«, distributed by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), brings together advice on how to prepare for emergencies such as wars, natural disasters or cyber attacks.
Five World War II Updates
This is an updated version of a document that Sweden has published five times since World War II.
«The security situation is serious and we all need to strengthen our resilience to face various crises and, ultimately, war,” MSB director Mikael Frisell said in a statement.
The 32-page document describes with illustrations the threats facing the Nordic nationsuch as military conflicts, natural disasters, and cyber and terrorist attacks.
Includes preparation tips, such as stocking up on non-perishable foods and storing water.
MSB indicated that the updated version focuses more on war preparation.
In the next two weeks More than 5 million leaflets will be sent to Swedish homess. The document is also available in digital version and in several languages.
For its part, Finland, which shares a 1,340-kilometer border with Russia, launched a website on Monday with advice on how to prepare for different types of crises.
