Serveo, the infrastructure services group owned by the Spanish fund Portobello, has put its subsidiary Inacua up for sale, specialized in the management of sports centers in Spain. The company is led by Ignacio Mataix, as president, and Salvador Urquía, as CEO, with KPMG as an advisor for this process, according to sources familiar with the operation.
Serveo is testing the market’s appetite for a growing business that is not a priority in its growth strategy, focused on the development of ‘facility management’ and industrial services. In this sense, the group, which has declined to comment, is open to divesting from those businesses that are outside of these activities, although for now there are no formal sales decisions.
The possible divestment of Inacua, a comprehensive manager of sports centers since 2004, comes at a time when the fitness sector is experiencing a boom in corporate operations. Not in vain, a few days ago VivaGym, controlled by Providence, announced the purchase of Altafit and last summer it did the same with Smartfit.
Inacua currently has 11 sports centers under the concession modality distributed in different locations in Spain. Of them, three are located in the Community of Madrid (two in Alcorcón and one in Torrejón de Ardoz) and one in Málaga, Murcia, Zaragoza, Andratx (Mallorca), L’Arboç (Tarragona), Sant Quirze del Vallès (Barcelona) , Burgos and Granada. The centers are specialized in sports, health, leisure and beauty.
In addition to Inacua, Serveo’s line of business is the provision of sports services and the development of physical activity programs. In this sense, it has fifteen contracts with Public Administrations such as the town councils of Getafe, Móstoles, Torrejón de Ardoz, Leganés or Tres Cantos, among others.
Serveo’s joint sports services activities generate an annual turnover of more than 30 million euros, so it is a business with a very limited weight in its income statement. The group is heading towards 2,000 million euros in turnover thanks to its organic and inorganic growth.
On this last point, the company, heir to Ferrovial Servicios Infraestructuras (bought in 2021 by Portobello), acquired Sacyr Facilities in 2023 and this year has incorporated Grupo Jauregui, the industrial services business of Dominion and the Catalan Navec, into its scope. while exploring new acquisitions.
