The second vice president and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, places emphasis again on the sanctions of the Labor Inspection on companies in the Valencian regions that have been seen beaten by DANA. Díaz has revealed that his department is already processing 106 files opened to companies for alleged breaches of labor regulations in force when considering that they have put the health and conditions of their workers at risk.
Díaz also made it clear that jurisdiction over labor matters and inspections correspond to the State, after it was made public that The Generalitat Valenciana had issued permits so that workers from various distribution chains could go to their jobs in full red alert due to DANA last Thursday.
“The regulations for the protection of occupational risks have a state nature and apply throughout Spain. There is no safe conduct that prevents the application of a general rule“, she stated after the controversy of recent days. Of course, the minister pointed out that not all sanctioning proceedings initiated exclusively affect companies in the distribution sector.
Complaints and null dismissals
Díaz once again urged workers to report their companies if they consider that they are not complying with the regulations. “If the inspection does not act ex officio, I ask the workers to report“and assured that these actions cannot lead to any retaliation on the part of the company. “If they were fired in this situation, it would be classified as null and void and that would mean reinstatement to the job,” said the minister.
Díaz’s belligerence with the Labor inspection has led to the Valencian employers’ association CEV to show its disagreement with what it describes as a lack of sensitivity in some of the measures approved by the Government. In Valencia, the vice president even later lowered her tone by acknowledging that the vast majority of businessmen were respecting the law. “All companies are complying and that is a very positive message,” he said after the meeting with employers and unions.
During that meeting Díaz presented the Employment Plan announced among the central government’s measures to help affected areas. An initiative that will count with 50 million euros that will be articulated through direct funds to the affected municipalities so that they hire unemployed to cope with jobs.
