AEMET activates warnings in the Canary Islands due to rain, with orange level on the island of La Palma

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has activated warnings on five islands of the Canary archipelago, at orange level (significant risk) in the case of La Palma, due to the forecast that very abundant rains will be recorded throughout the day.

Yellow warnings (risk) have been activated on the islands of Gran Canaria, La Gomera, El Hierro and Tenerife, given the predictions that indicate that up to 20 liters per square meter will accumulate in one hour in many places, and 60 liters per square meter in twelve hours in points of La Gomera, El Hierro and Tenerife.

In the case of La Palma, the “orange” warning will last throughout the day, and in the peaks, in the east and west of the island, up to 100 liters per square meter can be reached in twelve hours, according to data from the Aemet, which has warned that they will especially affect the north and west during the first half of the day and the eastern slope in the second half, and in many cases the rainfall will be accompanied by strong storms.

On the other islands (Gran Canaria, La Gomera, El Hierro and Tenerife) the warning is “yellow” (risk) due to the forecast that quantities will accumulate that will be around 20 liters per square meter in many places, and 60 liters in twelve. hours in La Gomera, El Hierro and the metropolitan area of ​​Tenerife.

The AEMET has indicated that rainfall will most likely affect areas and slopes facing south and west.

In the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, a day marked by stability is expected, with a predominance of slightly cloudy or clear skies, with the occasional shower in certain mountainous points of western Andalusia or central and western environments.

In the Cantabrian Sea and northeastern Catalonia, a predominance of cloudy or overcast skies is expected with the possibility of some weak and scattered precipitation or occasional showers, more likely on Catalan coasts.
