The general secretary of the PSOE-M, Juan Lobato, has announced that he is finally leaving the social network “insults and false information is spread all the time and in every corner.”
This is how the socialist expressed himself in a statement published this Sunday precisely on this social network from which he said goodbye after having been evaluating for a few days.
As Lobato explained, he has been observing “with concern” for some time that the strategy of misinformation and hoaxes “it seems to have no limits” and that society is immersed in a “serious and real risk for liberal democracies, such as the Spanish one.”
In his opinion, one of the main scenarios of global reality is X, formerly Twitter, which through short messages of just 10 words with a “manipulated, fake or out of context video “they cover an entire country, or the entire planet, denying, for example, scientific evidence sustained thanks to decades of research by thousands of people,” the statement states.
The spokesperson for the PSOE-M in the Assembly has regretted that “opportunity for direct and sincere dialogue and debate” between citizens.
In the end, it has been loaded with an “algorithm” of main source of misinformation and hoaxes, among which he has cited climate change.
At this point, he has made a collective call against hoaxes. “I think it is more than enough reason to give together a clear collective signal against something that promotes hoaxes, and promotes misinformation and polarization so decisively. The coverage and protection that it gives, among other things, to climate denialism is the reason that drives my decision,” he said.
In this case, Lobato has said that he will respond and confront misinformation and hoaxes outside of this social network. “I do it because you respond a million times with the truth to a million hoaxes in X neither does it put an end to hoaxes nor does it make the truth remain. The only thing it does, for sure, is generate more traffic and business to X and more incentives for there to be more hoaxes and misinformation,” he added.
Finally, he thanked all the people with whom he has shared his 13 years in X and has left a list of other social networks in which he has an account to continue chatting in those spaces.
