The former president of ERC and candidate for re-election, Oriol Junquerashas defended that his party enter the Government if it is to face “the great challenges” that Catalonia has and that, if not, he should continue in the opposition.
“We will not be in the Government just for the sake of being in it. We will only be in Governments that serve to help people“, he remarked in an interview this Sunday in ‘Público Catalunya’.
Junqueras has stressed that there are political formations with which it is difficult to face the challenges of Catalonia because “they simply do not want to do it”, and has called on the parties that do agree to comply with the pacts they have reached, verbatim.
He has little confidence in the amnesty
Asked about the application of the Amnesty Law, he said that they trust very little in the judges of the Supreme Court, and he pointed out that surely will not be able to run for the presidency of the Generalitat for now due to the disqualification that still weighs on him due to the judicial consequences of the ‘procés’.
“Those who do not want me to present myself can rest assured, because at the moment it is going to be a long time. And those who think that perhaps it would be good if I could present myself will have to learn to be patient,” he stressed, recalling that is disabled until 2031.
With this, he stressed that in ERC there are “very prepared people who can gain trust of large majorities” in Catalonia, and that they must present, in their words, whoever is always best, whether there are disqualifications or not.
The former president of the Republicans leads one of the three candidates that will compete for the leadership of the party next November 30.
