Pete Sampras’ successor will have to wait. Taylor Fritz failed to become the first American to win the ATP Finals since 1999. Jannik Sinner’s wall was too high for Fritz. The Italian imposed his stripes as world number 1 and took the title 6-4, 6-4 in 1 hour and 24 minutes. He thus becomes the first transalpine tennis player in history to win the masters tournament. He also did it in Turin, at home, supported by the public who chanted his last name on many occasions.
