The Court of Instruction Number 5 of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, acting as guard, has decreed this Friday the entry into provisional prison, communicated and without bail, for Santiago Carlos Martínformer head of Civil Protection of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The man has been temporarily removed from office by the City Council.
From the communication office of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) they report that a statement has been taken from him as an investigator. Martín was arrested on Wednesday by the National Police, as alleged perpetrator of human trafficking crimes for purposes of servitude, favoring clandestine immigration and continued crimes of sexual assault and sexual harassment.
After making this decision, the judicial authority has inhibited itself in favor of the Court of Instruction Number One of La Laguna, which directs an investigation that remains under summary secrecy. The duty court only intervened because the arrest took place in the capital of Chicharrera.
Santiago Carlos Martín, who also serves as spokesperson for the NGO SOS Disappeared in the Canary Islands, He was already investigated a few years ago for alleged sexual harassment to Civil Protection volunteers, although the case was archived. He was removed from his position in 2019 when the PSOE and CS reached the Mayor’s Office of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a position he regained with the return of the Canarian Coalition to power.
