The mayor of Burgos, Cristina Ayala, and her PP team, have decided to rectify and recover the agreements with Accem, Burgos Acoge and Atalaya Internacional that had been excluded at the request of Vox in the negotiation to move forward with the budgets, a measure that had received received a strong social response.
It is about a “very thoughtful” decision after several hours of meeting with “my team and other people.” Ayala has accepted the error and has assured that “rectification is wise.” The mayor has announced that the three organizations will have “the same amounts” as in 2024 after they had initially been excluded, a decision that caused protest rallies and Cáritas, which had maintained the aid, would renounce it as a sign of protest.
This is an “exclusive” decision of the PP group because “the real conviction was to maintain the aid that was in the draft budget”. Ayala wants a city in which “tolerance, welcoming” prevail to make “a better Burgos”, while at the same time he has trusted that the Government pact with Vox “will not be broken”, reports Ep.
The mayor has received “many calls and suggestions” from people who have asked her “not to withdraw the agreement” to recognize that yesterday’s demonstration was “very transversal” and reflected, in her opinion, that What “Burgos society wanted” was not being done in this regard..
The means to carry it out will be through an amendment that will be taken to the Finance Commission next Tuesday. It will include maintaining an economic item with the three organizations vetoed by Vox “with the same figures” as in 2024. The PP team now hopes that Vox understands this decision.
Ayala has transmitted this information to the provincial president, Borja Suárez; to the regional president of the PP, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco; and the general secretary of the PP, Cuca Gamarra. In this sense, he has recognized that the head of the party at the regional level, Fernández Mañueco, and the general secretary, have shown him their conviction that “It was the step that had to be taken.”
Ayala has highlighted the work that has been done by PP and Vox after the summer. They have collaborated jointly on the budget, which they described as “very good to get out of absolute paralysis.” The mayor maintains the need to approve the budget for 2025, either through ordinary means or for “a matter of trust”.
In this sense, he has reiterated that his group does not agree with Vox’s “imposition” because they consider that the work of third sector organizations is “fundamental.” Furthermore, with the suppression of the agreements “it was going to be very difficult to assume” all the work of the three entities in the City Council “since it is a network work.”
“Don’t let them go to illegal immigration”
After learning of the mayor’s decision, the spokesperson for the Vox Municipal Group in the Burgos City Council, Fernando Martínez Acitores, has announced that his party will present a transaction to the PP amendment in the sense that aid to Accem, Atalaya and Burgos Hosts “always be directed to legal immigration”.
In addition, they will present an amendment so that the same amount is directed to seniors, children and youth and aid to Red Madre for pregnant women at risk of vulnerability.
acitors has not clarified what mechanisms are to be arbitrated within the municipality to determine the legality or not of the actions carried out by third sector organizations in the city and recalled that now the PP is going to amend its own budgets referring to Atalaya, Burgos Acoge and Accem.
The ‘popular’ will bring an amendment to the Finance Commission on Tuesday to include the agreements with the three organizations. Now Vox is waiting for its transaction to be approved within the Government team, which if it does not occur could lead to a rupture between both parties, although Acitores has declined to comment on the matter.
The spokesperson for Abascal’s party has reiterated that the budget agreed with the PP is the “most realistic in history” and that its content will be essential for the development of the city. However, the obstacle regarding aid to organizations will not be revealed until the call of the Finance Commission, which must debate the PP amendment and the Vox transactional amendment.
