The foundation of the new MUPAC has been completed, whose museum project will be finished before the end of the year

The foundation works of the building that will house the Museum of Prehistory and Archeology of Cantabria (MUPAC) have already been completed, so soon the skeleton of the infrastructure will begin to be raised which will be completed in March 2026.

Furthermore, it is estimated that the museum project that will provide content to the museum, by Frade Arquitectosbe finished before the end of the year. This was reported this Thursday by the president of Cantabria, María José Sáenz de Buruaga, in a visit she made to the works to check their progress.

EXECUTION

As Buruaga detailed, after 20 months of execution of the works which began in March 2023, almost 30% of the project has been completed, which represents close to 14 million of the 49 million of the total budget for the action. In this sense, he stressed that the works are being carried out within the planned deadlines and that, after the completion of the foundation and the basement walls – both the space that will house the museum and the administrative part -, in the “next days” the skeleton will begin to be seen from outside the enclosure.

The president said that this visit has been “very exciting and gratifying”, since “after the initial difficulties were resolved effectively”, everything is going well. “smoothly and in accordance” with the planned schedule.

STRUCTURE

At this time, the execution of the structural work has begun, in which the two areas of action: the administrative building and the museum. In total it will have seven floors (5 façade and 2 ground floors). As for the administrative space – 7,000 square meters – basement -2 and -1 have been built, and the pillars of the ground floor are currently being built.

Meanwhile, the museum building (which will have 12,000 square meters) is finishing the foundation and It is estimated to begin next week to raise the pillars. On the other hand, the structural work of both buildings will continue, whose estimated completion time is March for the administrative building, and April for the museum. At the same time that the structural work is progressing, the basement installation work -2 and -1 will be undertaken.
